Your favorite song is "Child 'o God" (I am a Child of God). You love to watch the video and you love me singing it to you over and over and over. I love that song too but have been wishing you would let me sing some others as well as I sing you to sleep. However you have very adamantly refused any other songs for bedtime.
Tonight you once again became very angry when I started to hum a different tune. "Don't you like any other songs?" I asked. "No! Child o' God!" You yelledThis time I had an idea. Don't you like the song about your Northalynn star?" "Mm-hmm" and you let me sing I am Like a Star Shining Brightly. When I finished you said "My star song again" a few times in a row. Becoming braver I tried to sing another song but once again you loudly refused. "What about a song about rainbows?" "Yes" Another success. I sang "I Like to Look for Rainbows" several times and you told me when to sing "wainbow" and when to sing "My star song." I tried a few times to convince you to let me add in some other songs, but those were the only two that you wanted.

I love you,

It is almost your birthday. You wanted to choose what we did for scripture study today and chose to listen to the friend magazine on my phone. Your favorite story this month is "Erika's Dream Park" (April 2017 Friend)

We also watched a video of a new primary song about "Many Names of Jesus" and read a fun activity page in the friend where we get to fill in the blanks as we discover some of the names of Jesus. It would be fun to figure out those blanks. That will be a great study time for the next few days.

Today we learned about the tower of Babel. We learned that Nimrod was the man who decided to build the tower. He was Noah's great grandson but he did not believe in obeying God's laws and he did not have the priesthood. He wanted the tower to be a temple even though he did not have the authority to build a temple. He had too much pride.

Then we read cinderella and learned that her stepmother had pride too. That is why she was so mean to cinderella.

Pride often precedes destruction.

Starflower and I love learning with you. Thank you for playing with her and for sharing your crayons with her. She loves to be with you.

As we snuggled together after watching "I am a Child of God" (video on Mormon channel) all was calm and quuet. Suddenly You started to say all the words of the chorus in your little sweet voice. It was incredible. I have never heard you say long sentences like that before. It is so anazing!! I am so happy I was able to hear it. Thank you!! It has been a tough day for me, and your song calmed and inspired me.

I love you so much,

It was tough going for scripture study tonight. Dad was getting a little tired of thenoise and insisted that girls go outside and run laps or do lots of jumping jacks. When they completed that task and came back in , there was still a lot of hyper-ness and noise so he said if there was any more sounds, they had to go out and do more jumping jacks before we would continue with the scriptures.

Morning Glory had an inspiring idea and began to make something out of play-dough because that used her hands and didn't make any sound. It was fun to see how she incorporated what we read about by making a figure wearing costly apparel and a figure of Nephihah, the new chief judge.

Lady Slipper had fun with it too and even Starflower climbed onto the table to watch. The girls decided we should do scriptures with play-dough every time because it actually helped them focus better on what we are reading.

Morning Glory helped us choose a quote to use from Elder Oaks' latest conference talk. She also made the poster for us to put on the back of the front door. We have used this quote as the theme for our last two Family Home Evenings.

Last week we were able to go to Morning Glory's graduation and reflect on how fruitful her 7 years at her school have been. She worked very hard and earned many awards including: "most improved" in choir, "Excellence" in math, and the High honor roll for her exceptional grades. She spent lots of time helping others as she was a teacher aid in violin and for second grade students. She was a good friend to many, especially any she noticed sitting alone. She especially loved orchestra. When we got back home, we enjoyed healthy cherry pie bars which Lady Slipper especially planned and helped prepare (they are made with white sweet potato crust).

This week we took time to read a "for little friends" story from the Friend called "Marta's Garden" and then hunt for some hidden pictures of bananas, garden tools and other fruits and veggies. (Starflower enjoyed tearing up an old magazine and then pointing out the pictures on the section she had torn). One of my favorite memories is when Lady Slipper happily explained that "by their fruits ye shall know them" means that we "eat lots of healthy stuff!" Then MG chose bananas as our treat.

Thanks all of you for lots of FHE memories,

Love,

We have been studying a special "scripture" quote from President Monson ' s talk this month: "May we ever choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong." Morning Glory made a special poster we put up to help remind us.

Today you really wanted Bible stories for your scripture time. You chose a favorite in the special book with fun hidden flaps and cute pictures. Then we just couldn't stop reading because you had another favorite and another favorite. I loved it.

I especially enjoyed when we did "The silly and clever builders. We sang the song the Wise man and the Foolish man and learned that foolish and wise are other words for silly and clever. And then we realized that is a lot like President Monson ' s talk the easier wrong and the harder right are other ways to say silly and clever too.

Finally we had to stop when Starflower started dumping out the cottage cheese and climbing all over the table.

I had lots of fun with you today!

Thank you for your example. This morning you worked hard on your morning jobs and were especially excited when we started reading the scripture stories together. We have been reading the Children’s Book if Mormon Stories in order and read about Alma teaching people the message God sent the people through the prophet Abinadi. (You have many of these memorized from all the times you have watched the videos. It us fun to read it together this time through)

When we finished you asked me to please read another story from the Children’s Doctrine and Covenants Stories book. So we did.
Then you begged several times for another story and had to wait while we finished our breakfast and kitchen clean up.

I was so happy that you wanted to read another one so much. You helped finish the kitchen and got all ready for school, then we were finally able to read another one.

We read about Joseph Smith when he was 14 years old. You had some really good questions. "How can we belong to the true church if Jesus said they were all wrong?" You were excited that Joseph Smith was able to help Jesus bring the true church back to the earth again.

I love you!
Thank you for asking me to read another one!

I am thankful for being able to work alongside you as you work on your Young Women Personal Progress goals. We are almost finished with the virtue project: to complete the Book of Mormon all the way through again. You and I decided to finish reading by the end of the year and we are getting very close.
One special memory I have is a couple of weeks ago when you suggested we both read all the way through the first 15 chapters of 3rd Nephi. It was nice to take the time to read that much in one day.
This time through the Book of Mormon, I keep being drawn back to reread Lehi's dream in First Nephi and the visit of Jesus in Third Nephi. They are very important chapters to me.
I pray that we will complete our goal. We are almost there and almost out if days. We can do it.

Today we had a very very messy kitchen to clean up. I asked you if you could think of a scripture story about someone who had a very hard job to do. After only a few seconds of thought you said, "The Brass Plates."
As we cleaned, we talked about that story and how Nephi needed help from God and prayed for that help before he was able to get the plates.
We took a break from doing the dishes and said a prayer for help with this messy job and especially for Starflower to be happy long enough for us to do it. Then we got back to work.

You found all the dirty dishes on the table and even the ones starflower threw down on the floor and you helped rinse the bubbles off after I washed them. It was fun working with you and even Starflower played in her high chair long enough for the dishes to be finished.

This was a fun way to study scriptures today. Thank you for thinking of such a good story and for praying and working with me.

I love you!!

Zoram in Laban's treasury was played by a goblin in Gringott's bank. Definitely a very fun Family Home Evening.

Thanks Dad!!

While you ate your boiled egg this morning, we learned the story of our pioneer grandma Charlotte:

She was a teeny tiny baby when she was born (only 3 pounds) and she was born the same month as you (On the 28th of March).

When she grew bigger, her parents met some missionaries and joined the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"Mean people sometimes took eggs and threw them at the missionaries but she ran in front of the missionaries and the eggs got her instead of the missionaries." (Lady Slipper)

One day she went on a ship across the water to get to the promised land just like Nephi did.

Your questions after the story:
Why did she have to cross in a boat?
Why wasn't a big bridge?
Why couldn't she swim across?
How come she couldn't walk across stairs either?
Why didn't God tell Nephi to build a bridge instead of a boat?

Love,
Mom

PS
starflower was listening too while she ate her baby cereal.

Tonight we read Mosiah 22 while we were eating dinner. A lettuce leaf Limhi, and tortilla chip Gideon made plans to escape from the Lamanites. Then our mouths became the "back pass on the back wall of the back side of the city" where all the people snuck out through.

We had a fun Family Night last night.
Dad chose I am a Child of God for the opening song and Lady Slipper rushed to lead, as usual.

I chose the March primary theme scripture,Luke 1:70--"As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began." Lady Slipper also wanted us to do the 4th article of Faith which she is working on.

Morning Glory taught us about General Conference and we all laughed as Dad helped Starflower explain what that is. We shared ideas of activities we could do during Conference in a couple of weeks.

Lady Slipper brought out the Life game board and led us in an activity of pretend play as we all chose where to drive our cars, how many children to have, where we wanted to live, etc. Then she shared some yummy cinnamon roll cookies she and dad made today.

Thanks for a wonderful night!!

A few days ago we listened to the New Era together(January 2015). You really love the object lessons.

I especially loved the article by president packer about Lehi's dream and have continued to study more about it. President Packer said that you are in that dream. I hope to learn how to better help you and your sisters prepare for all the mocking you will get each time you partake of the fruit.

My greatest desire is to be there at the tree with all of my family and that we will not listen to those in the "great and spacious building" even though we live in it in so many ways because of all the evil around us. I pray we will never be ashamed of eating the fruit of the love of God.

I was excited for you as you left for your first Young Women Camp. I missed you so much, but also was so glad you can go. I anxiously awaited your return, hoping you had a wonderful and memorable time and loved hearing your exuberant voice as you related your experiences to me after returning.

You were especially excited to continue a 40 day Book of Mormon reading challenge started while you were there. I am Inspired as I watch you work so hard to read several chapters each day. I am even trying to keep up with it too.

We filled out a worksheet this morning about how to make and keep friends. While thinking of specific character traits which make a good friend I suggested we combine scripture study with the assignment by thinking of a scripture character who would be a good friend you thought of Ammon. He was talkative, kept commitments, was energetic, and willing to invite people to do things with him.
That made a good list to finish the worksheet.

I think you are right that Ammon was a great friend.

First thing this morning you began reading this month's New Era. Within seconds you excitedly asked if you can teach the next Family Home Evening lesson and told me your favorite part of the magazine is the object lessons. I was happy to agree and then followed your example and began reading this month's Ensign.
Thanks for the wonderful morning!

You started a great little testimony conversation in the car today.

You: "Mother, why is there day and then night?"

Me: "We should ask Heavenly Father and Jesus."

You: "Why?"

Me: "They created the day and the night so They know the best answer to that question."

You: "Why did They have night and then day?"

Me: "It must have been the way They wanted it to be."

Thanks for your wonderful questions!

Love,

Mother

PS: you have discovered the word mother and now love to use that word more often than mommy. It is so cute to hear, and makes me happy each time you say it.

After a rushed trip to the laundromat (because our washing machine broke), Dad and I did not quite make it back in time for Saturday morning session of General Conference, but did find it on the radio as we came home. We came inside to a wonderful sight:

You and Lady Slipper settled with a snack and listening to General Conference together.

I was so impressed that you remembered Conference even without mom and dad here to lead the way.

You are truly a blessing! Thank you for being my daughter!

Since you finished your goal of reading the Book of Mormon before you were 12 so early, you have been thinking about what to study in the mornings before you go to school. It has been fun to notice the different things you have chosen to do for your study time in the last few weeks.

This morning, I woke up early to find you studying the New Testament. As I sat down next to you, you expressed how you had been reading through the different Gospel accounts looking for the ones that share about Jesus' birth and you asked me where my special book was (that has the four Gospels in chronological harmony and parallel columns. . .It is a really fun book I kept from my New Testament Class in College).

When I brought it to you, I really enjoyed your interest as you looked through it and we talked about some of the different perspectives and different stories emphasized by each of those four writers. You asked where you could get your own copy of a book like that and told me about your new goal to study the New Testament until Christmas.

I love that "special book" too and have enjoyed using it as a supplement to help me understand the New Testament better. It was fun to have you interested and sharing that interest with me. I love the stories written about Jesus.

I wish you the best in your new goal!! Thanks for sharing it with me this morning!!

Dad asked you to do the lesson for Family Home Evening tonight. You really wanted to do the object lesson you read about yesterday in the New Era article: Citrus Warriors (September 2013), but we didn't have any oranges. Dad didn't feel like going to the grocery store as part of Family Night but he suggested we could try a peach since he thought it might still sink if we peeled it AND took out the pit. It was a fun science experiment but didn't really work for the lesson since when we took off the "armor" (the peel) it still floated in the "troubled world" (water in a pitcher). It still floated even without the pit too. Then I remembered that we did have two lemons in the fridge and so the lemon warrior did sink after his "armor" was taken off.

You taught a great lesson. You thought of things that the "lemon" did wrong as you cut into the armor. You taught how repentance helps us put the armor back on and you were also careful to make sure Lady Slipper understood that we weren't really talking about lemon peels, but about how we can make good choices like pray and study scriptures to keep the armor of God on.

Thank you for the wonderful lesson!!! I was also very impressed with your patience in letting other family members help and give suggestions (even the ones that didn't work so well) in trying to help the lesson be a success. It was a really wonderful memory :)

I love being your Mom!!
